This book does an excellent job of describing the various neighborhoods of Naples so that anyone living in Naples can better appreciate their distinctive features. In addition to the useful historical and cultural information on Naples, this book also provides plenty of practical information to help any foreigner living in Naples make the most of their stay in this beautiful city. The four women who wrote this book also included a chapter entitled "Spirited She-Apolitans: Sirens, Sibyles, Saints and Sovereigns" which looks at the women of Naples from the city's mythic past to the present. This chapter helps mitigate the impression that Naple's 3000-year history was just about men.The beautiful photos and paintings included in this book complement the text nicely. The only shortcoming I found were the painted maps: they aren't useful. Since Naples is a labyrinth of narrow streets and small piazzas, it would have been nice if each of the chapters devoted to a neighborhood in Naples also had an accurate map of that neighborhood.

Napoli Unplugged Guide to Naples edition by Bonnie Alberts Barbara Zaragoza Erin Romano Kelly Medford Penny EwlesBergeron Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
Well-written, concise and brought out the hidden delights of Naples, often a much-maligned city.
Takes me home. LOVE IT !!!!!!
After immersing myself in the novels of Elena Ferrante, I am more than ever curious about this complicated and beautiful city in Italy. The marvelous painting on the cover set the stage for a book created from a local's perspective, hand crafted with intelligence, expertise, and joy. The book is a complete compendium of relevant information for a visitor with the addition of profiles of local artisans. Being able to read about the lives of the glovemaker, Mauro Squillace, or Riccardo Dalisi, a tin sculpture artist, add an enchanting element to the book. I have always loved the work of Mimmo Paladino and so it was with great interest I read where I can find his work in Naples. I don't need to look any further, this book has everything I need to plan my trip and make the most out of my visit, including the surprising and useful tip to carry an Italian newspaper!
Great resource for history, and current events. this book Made my trip to Naples and surrounding area FANTASTIC. Can't wait to return.
My mother spent 9 years in Naples, 4 years after World War II; 5 years in the 70' s. Found this invaluable.
I recently returned from a most incredible week in Naples and the Amalfi Coast. This book became my "Bible" for the trip. It included everything I needed in an easily readable format. The history, places to visit, places to eat, shopping, tips for getting around, but more than that, the colorful personality of Naples and it people came to life. Truly a labor of love and a must read for anyone planning a visit to Napoli. I just gave a copy to a friend who is planning a visit in the spring!
This is a very nice book with very detailed information about the neighborhoods. I only wish there were better maps so I could more easily figure out where the authors are talking about. The maps inside are drawn/painted and not very detailed.
